During the years 2008 to 2012 twelve snow tracking surveys done in nine 10 x 10 km2 squares were carried out in the Czech Republic. Number of individuals identified in different squares varied between one to twenty nine adult otters per 100 km2. Higher densities were found in fishpond areas compared to mountain areas. Dependent cubs made up 36% of the population, and the average size of litter was 1.58.
